Venous Valve Angioplasty
Evidence is mounting that changes in the structure and function of venous valves may be responsible for a significant number of all CCSVI cases. Balloon angioplasty of valves, however, is ineffective in most cases.
At the CCSVI-Center in Frankfurt, Germany, research is under way to explore the possibilities of intra-vascular surgery of “stuck” valves: A special catheter can be used to cut valve leaflets without damage to the wall of the vein. The experts at the CCSVI-Center expect better results with this technique in patients whose blood-flow is impeded by valvular obstruction.
